About Will Spurling:
Will Spurling has been playing the drums for 20 years. He had private lessons from age 8 to age 16 with Malcolm Randall in Woking before studying music and Performing Arts at The BRIT School in Croydon.

Will landed his first session booking in August 2005 after being spotted playing a gig with Progressive Folk Noir group Mandala in Shepherds Bush by studio owner Steve Honest. Steve took Will’s number from Mandala’s front man so Will was quite surprised to receive a call from a stranger by the name of Troy Tempest a few months later asking if he’d like to come and record drums for his new project at Steve Honest’s studio in East London. Steve also helped Will land sessions for Karim Fanous on his album ‘Stir Crazy’ and Rich Barnard on his album ‘STFU’ and also the legendary Manfred Mann.

Will has been constantly in bands from the age of 12 and began gigging central London at the tender age of 14, the sound engineers nearly threw him out till they heard him play! He’s a member of “Dactyls” who are recording with Producer Rat Scabies (former drummer with The Damned). Will has also toured the UK for 5 weeks in 2006 with Union Street Runners who were the main support for The Rifles. From 2003-2005 Will was a member of The Souls who released tracks on Fierce Panda’s “On The Buzzes” compilation alongside Razorlight, Ludes and The Rakes. Alan Mcgee gave them radio play on Radio 1 and invited them to play his club night twice too. Will’s also been spotted playing his bongos over the sound system at Drum&Bass raves around the South and at Brighton club nights.

Will’s drumming influences are the 60’s rock legends: Mitch Mitchell, Ginger Baker, John Bonham, Keith Moon, Ringo Starr. The Soul and Motown greats: Bernard Purdie, Al Jackson, Benny Benjamin, Pistol Allen and Uriel Jones. The funk legends: Zigaboo Modelsite, Clyde Stubblefield. Reggae heroes: Carlton Barrett and Sly Dunbar and Jazz greats: Buddy Rich, Ed Thigpen, Art Blakey, Max Roach, Joe Morrello and Elvin Jones.
Will’s also heavily influenced by the energetic and creative mixing skills of Drum&Bass DJ Andy C.
Show Description:
Will plays full drums and also percussion bongos
